Over the last two weeks, we have witnessed the immense pain and anger spread across the world following the death of George Floyd on May 25.
As a team, we will make changes to ensure we play our part in challenging this inequality and prejudice, and we begin our journey by listening, reflecting, educating ourselves and turning the camera inward, so that our resulting actions are meaningful and effective.
As an art advisory firm, Art Acumen has a responsibility to provide visibility, support and opportunities for all artists. After taking a closer look over our own projects, we do not see enough diversity in our work and recognize that our good intentions and diversity policies have not been good enough. But change comes from action, not statements.
As our first action we have donated to The Black Curriculum a social enterprise founded in 2019 by young people to address the lack of Black British history in the UK Curriculum. Future actions will be focused on supporting black artists and ensuring that they are represented in the work that we do. We are currently working on some new initiatives to ensure that this happens and will update with more news.
In solidarity,
Art Acumen team
