Art at 33 | Rory Cannon

ART AT 33 is a changing sculpture exhibition, showcasing a varied programme of artwork in the reception of 33 Davies Street. The exhibition has been designed to introduce different types of sculpture, techniques and artistic language to tenants and visitors of the building, helping to create an enjoyable and stimulating space. Working closely with Grosvenor and Stow and with the tenants of 33 Davies Street, we are delighted to present a collection of sculpture by Rory Cannon, our eleventh artist to exhibit.

Rory is an emerging artist, whose upbringing in a family deeply rooted in stone masonry has significantly influenced his artistic journey. Growing up surrounded by the craftsmanship of both his mother and father, laid a solid foundation for Rory’s growth as an artist and shaped his unique perspective on blending the worlds of art and engineering.

The fusion of artistry and technical skill is a defining feature of Rory’s work, as he delves into the captivating notion of giving life to inanimate objects. His exploration revolves around the concept of “making the sculpture breathe,” infusing static creations with a sense of vitality and motion. Drawing inspiration from the human form, Rory embarks on a journey of abstraction, transforming classic materials into pieces that carry both political significance and mythical allure. Through his meticulous crafting, he weaves rhythms and fluidity into each sculpture, evoking a dynamic energy and instilling a visible tension and drama, conveying a feeling of controlled chaos as if the pieces yearn to break free from their material constraints.
