view projectRiverstone is sited in Fulham next to the River Thames, a natural crossing point in the River Thames that drew ancient travellers and settlers. In more recent history, the river has played a significant role in industry and enterprise, with pottery, tapestry-weaving, and paper-making in the 17th and 18th centuries, followed by glass-blowing in the 19th-century.
Art Acumen commissioned Peter Hayes, an internationally renowned ceramic artist with many years of experience. Hayes is known for his abstract ceramic sculptures that incorporate natural materials and organic shapes. The sculpture welcomes residents and visitors into the grounds and sits among Riverstone’s beautifully landscaped garden area; shaded areas, and lush greenery surround the piece. Peter designed a circular sculpture with an integrated water feature that connects the piece to its riverside’s location. He combines traditional and contemporary techniques to create a stunningly textured piece with a vivid blue acrylic band to representative of the Thames. The texture of the ceramic reflects the “Riverstone,” a stone that gets smoother and more refined as it ages.
